#BESpring 2020: Favorite Reading Tropes, Bookending Spring style!

Favorite Reading Tropes, Bookending Spring style! 
List out your favorite tropes that you find in books, and recommend your favorites for each! Then, find (at least) two other people who did this blog post and comment recommendations for them based off the tropes they talked about! Checking the comments section of this page and looking at the pingbacks should help

You know how much I love to talk about my favorite tropes. I think I’ve talked about it two to three times already. You can’t stop me from talking about them.

Top Favorite Tropes

Enemies/Bully to Lover

Honestly, this trope owns me body and soul. 80% of the books I’ve read in the last year have had this trope sprinkled in somehow. Out of the 3 shown here, my TOP recommendation is Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It was probably one of the first books I read where the female MC was a bad-ass, I-dont-wait-to-be-rescued, type. It changed the way I looked at Fantasy books.

Office romance

Now that I am an Adult and work in an office, this trope has slowly gain momentum as far as my favorites go. The Hating game was DELICIOUS. Ego Maniac was hilarious and sweet. However, The Hating Game is my top recommendation for this trope.

Fairytale

Fairytale retellings can either be SO SO SO good or just plain horrible. I’ve been lucky to have read only good ones but the day when I stumble upon a bad one will come. I’ve mentioned before that Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge was an all time favorite and it was one of the first books to throw me into the rabbit hole that is Fairytale retellings. Uprooted was the best surprise of 2019. Naomi Novik is a pure genius. It easily became one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. So obviously, it’s my top recommendation for this trope. Soul Mate/Fate

This is a trope that goes back ages in my reading career. I used to eat these bad boys for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My young heart was all for the whole soul mate/fate thing. The Secret Circle by LJ Smith was my favorite when I was in middle school. The story was different for the time and it was the first witch romance novel I read. Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa I found during my college years and I’ve have heart eyes for it ever since.
My top recommendation for this trope will have to be The Secret Circle by LJ Smith.

Opposites Attract

Although overdone, the Nerd Girl + Jock boy opposites attract trope is my favorite. The Deal by Elle Kennedy did it so well. The nerd girl wasnt annoying and wasn’t all that innocent. She wasn’t a social pariah like most are portrayed.

Marriage of convenience | Arranged marriage

This trope can go with Enemies to Lovers so well. Princess/Woman from enemy lands marries the tyrant as a peace offering? SIGN ME UP.

Winter King by CL Wilson was such a good read. I was entranced from the first page throughout. Stolen Songbird by Danielle L Jensen to this day remains a favorite. It was one of the first Fae books I read and is honestly the reason why I picked up ACOTAR.

Athlete 

Mariana Zapata is to blame for my sudden sports romance love affair. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was an absolute piece of ART. It’s my top re-read book on Goodreads right now because I also re-read it.
Jock Row by Sara Ney was an adorable story and struck its claws into my little heart from the second chapter. It has the same slow burn elements as The Wall of Winnipeg but the Male MC is friendlier.

My top recommend for this trope is The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata.

Pen Pals to Lovers

This is a trope I didn’t know I needed in my life. Take Slow Burn and multiply it by 10. THE ANGST. THE FEELS. Ugh.

Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas was the first that I read that had this type of trope sprinkled in. And my goodness was it a wild ride.
Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata was a game changer though as, unlike Punk 57, the majority of the book is through letters, Chat and email! I’ve never read about like that in my life and now I want MORE.
